Are you racist?

racism
All of you have read the title. Most of you will straight away discard the topic and maybe even close the window!! But hey whats the hurry....1 min time is not much.

Even I discarded the question when I read it in one book. But after reading 1-2 paragraphs I asked myself a simple question and the answer left me thinking.

So the question is if 2 boys (1 black and 1 white ) are drowning and you can save just 1 who will you save? If people seriously and truthfully ans this question many will be shocked!

By racist i doesnt mean those hardcore people who torture blacks....its just that people generally have a stronger affection towards whites than blacks!

You can also take the racism test developed by Harward University and find the results-

https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/demo/selectatest.html

After reading the book and taking the test I realised that I had a slight preference towards white than black. From that day I always treat everyone as equal without any preference. Hope more people will acknowledge the fact and take necessary actions :)

I was looking for some pictures on Google the other day and stumbled upon something which seemed new to me. (it may have been there since ages! )

When you are searching images, at the bottom of the page its written "Want to help improve Google Image Search? Try Google Image Labeler. "

Click on it and it redirects you to a page where the steps are written. Read them and start playing!!

So in the end its not actually a game and its just helping google to improve their search. But you will get addicted to matching more and more labels and getting more and more points. (although they are of no use! ) I started scoring around 600 points and with some practise could score upto 1200!!

How much can you score? Fill up in the comments section ;)

Dostana- Movie Review

dostana movie Dostana was 1 of the much awaited movies this year since one saw its trailors. An expected laugh riot and the movie does some justice to the expectations.

1st half of the movie is very good. Funny scenes, tricky situations, nice songs and some good acting gives the feeling that this movie would be a good watch.

In the second half the movie transforms into a typical bollywood movie with the same old story!! But the best part about the movie is its twists. Whenever the story starts becoming predictable theres a twist which isnt expected at all!! Thats what makes the movie interesting and can be a good one time watch.

Only if the movie had a better 2nd half and a bit different story it would have been surely a bigger hit!!

Stock market crash explained with monkeys!!

By Sanchit on Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Once upon a time in a place overrun with monkeys, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each. The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, they became harder to catch, so the villagers stopped their effort.

The man then announced that he would now pay $20 for each one. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. But soon the supply diminished even further and they were ever harder to catch, so people started going back to their farms and forgot about monkey catching. The man increased his price to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so sparse that it was an effort to even see a monkey, much less catch one.

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys for $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on his behalf.

While the man was away the assistant told the villagers. ‘Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has bought. I will sell them to you at $35 each and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each.’

The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys. They never saw the man nor his assistant again and once again there were monkeys everywhere.

Thats how the STOCK MARKET works and crashes!!

Chandigarh: Claiming that he has rightful claim over first prize of a contest launched by a telecommunication company as he scored 34,160 points in the competition by playing day and night and after spending huge money on SMSes, JP Nanda, a Phase 10 Mohali resident, knocked the doors of the consumer court. Holding the company guilty, UT consumer forum directed Tata Tele Services Limited to pay Rs two lakh prize money along with Rs 50,000 as compensation and Rs 5,000 as litigation costs.

Finding the company deficient in its services, the forum, headed by Jagroop Singh Mahal, held “In the absence of proper record, we cannot believe that anybody else had scored the points higher than the complainant in the said contest. Since the company had indulged in an unfair trade practice and tried to befool the public by introducing a scheme which benefited the company to the tune of several crores, they will have to pay compensation.”

According to the complaint, Nanda received an SMS on his mobile phone regarding a contest called ‘Horror Haveli’, which was later changed to ‘Pechan’. Nanda said that he spent Rs 6 per minute for assessing the service and was promised a car if he manages to score the highest.

Nanda alleged that he played the game till August 12, 2007 and scored 34,160 points, which was also confirmed by the company. “However, after August 14, 2007, the company closed the contest without giving any prior declaration and did not even disclose the result,” he added.

Nanda sent a legal notice to the company after it declined to entertain his grievances. The company also replied to Nanda’s letter. “It stated that Nanda did not qualify to win the car, but did the mention the reason.”

In its reply, Tata Tele Services Limited stated that instead of car, the contest’s bumper prize was Rs two lakh and the winner of the contest was from Mumbai.

Selfish play-Ponting the culprit??

By Sanchit on Sunday, November 09, 2008

They have accused us of playing for records, playing for money, playing for sponsors and playing for eyerything that doesnt matter. Australia has always portrayed itself as a team which play to win, a team which keeps records aside and play for the nation. But will ponting's actions today change that notion and maybe will cost him his captaincy. The ever arrogant australian captain Ricky Ponting crossed the epitome of selfishness when he let the nagpur test possibly slip away from australia to save himself from a possible 1 test match suspension!

4th day of the last test match at Nagpur. Indians were struggling for 166/5. The stakes were high-

-> A possible test match victory

-> A victory that would level the series

-> A victory which would have meant australia keeps the Border-Gavaskar trophy for the 3rd time in succession

-> Finally a victory which would have justified Australia's top position in the test rankings

But ponting in a desperate attempt to save himself from a fine or a possible 1 match ban due to slow over rate didnt give the ball to his strike bowlers after tea and let the match slip away from australia. It was late in the afternoon when he gave the ball to Watson and soon after the Indian tail got out but by then the damage has been done.

Ponting have always been blamed for slow over rates. In this series his various tactics are being questioned including leaving kretza out of the squad for 1st 3 matches. There was an ugly spat between him and Brett lee which the whole world saw. To top it all his not in the best of form. Apart from 123 in bangalore he has scored only 135 runs in 7 innings at a miserable average of 17!!

Has the time come for Australia to look beyond Ponting?

Brain is the most powerful computer on the planet. It is said that only 4% of our brain is used in our whole lifetime!! So why not optimize it for best performance. Here are some tips that you can start following from today only-

1.) Eat almonds- Almonds is believed to improve memory.

2.) Drink apple juice- Research from the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML) indicates that apple juice increases the production of the essential neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain, resulting in an increased memory power.

3.) Sleep well

4.) Enjoy simple pleasures- Stress drains our brainpower. A stress-ridden mind consumes much of our memory resources to leave us with a feeble mind. Make a habit to engage yourself in few simple pleasures everyday to dissolve stress from your mind. Some of these simple pleasures are good for your mind, body and soul.

->Enjoy music you love
->Play with your children
->Hug a stranger
->Appreciate others
->Run few miles a day, bike or swim

5.) Fast for a day- Fasting cleans and detoxifies the body.

6.) Exercise your mind- Mental exercise is essential for a sharp and active mind.

->play scrabble, sudoku etc

->learn new skill or language

7.) Reduce sugar intake- Sugar is a non-food. It’s a form of carbohydrate that offers illusionary energy, only to cause a downhill slump once the initial burst has been worn off. Excess intake of sugar results in neurotic symptoms.

8.) Develop imagination- No one can ignore the power of imagination. So involve all your senses, relax and get imaginative!!

The dth war has begun with the launch of BIG TV.

Reliance has done much hard work to promote its BIG TV. May it be charging for GSK instead of STB to evade taxes, spoofing competitors ads, accusing competitors of poor services ; but has reliance forgotton the most important thing SERVICE TO THE CONSUMERS??

I had been facing problems with BIGTV from the past 1 month and their customer care is as pathetic as their service.

I thought maybe its 1 in a 1000 cases and overall maybe BIG TV is not that bad but a little research on internet showed 1000s of users are unsatisfied with BIG TV service. Here are some links below so you can check out the reviews-

->Some people have compared reliance with beggars!!

->Many have shifted and others are planning to shift to different providers.

->Some are still awaiting installation even after weeks of making payment.

->Almost all are frustrated and many are considering legal action.

So before you consider buying it just rethink-

is it big tv or BIG HOAX??
