Give India donateI recieved an Email yesterday from Indiblogger and to cut the long story short-

One of India’s most trusted and credible NGOs, GiveIndia is taking part in a competition on Facebook to win a US$1 million grant. The winner will be the NGO that gets the highest number of votes from Facebook users. The prize of $1 million will help put or keep 40,000 children across India in school for one year!

Imagine Indians coming together to spread the word and help the underprivileged children of India. The impact would be tremendous and GiveIndia would be able to gather the votes we need to win.

Voting in the competition is for one week only, from Friday, January 15 – Friday, January 22, 2010. Can we make a difference in the next 5 days? We sure hope so!

The link for voting, where you can also see more details of the competition is

In case you have more questions about this, please write to giveindiachase@gmail.com and a GiveIndia team member would be happy to reply.

Well to be frank this is pretty much useless information but may still be helpful to some.

Ten Simple Things We Should All Say More Often

By Sanchit on Monday, December 29, 2008

comments (2)

Filed Under: ,

How many words do you speak during an average day? No, I am not talking about text messages, emails, or slang chatroom words, I am talking about words that actually come out of your mouth.

The average figure is 16,000 words. Even then, much of what we say can be meaningless chit-chat, brisk, necessary exchanges or even angry rants.

Here are ten things that we could all do with saying more often. While reading, I'll bet you believe the list is pretty simplistic. However, the positive impact they will have on your mood and your day is pretty dramatic.

1.) “Hello.”

How often do you sit silently next to someone on a train, or in a waiting room? How often do you stand tapping your foot in a line at the post office or bank? Just saying a simple “Hello” or “Hi” to the person next to you, and offering them a smile, could give you an instant mood-boost. And you might even get into a conversation to pass the time while you’re waiting.

2.) “Thank you.”

It’s hard to say “thank you” too often. Even when you feel someone’s performing a service that they should do by the nature of their job, thanking them will make both of you feel good. How about saying “thank you” to your employees or subordinates when they carry out a task for you, “thank you” to the girl at the checkout when she packs your bags for you, “thank you” to the waiter who brings your meals… Those two small words of gratitude can mean a lot.

3.) “Please.”

A word which we often associate with “thank you”, perhaps because we were taught to say both as young children, is “please”. Using this little word turns a demand into a request – and makes people much happier about fulfilling it. When you queue up for a coffee at Starbucks, don’t just bark “Venti Mocha Frappuccino” at the barista – add a “please”. When asking your partner to pass the salt at dinner, put in that “please”. It doesn’t just set a great example for your kids, it sets a tone of politeness and mutual respect.

4.) “Here, take my seat.”

Most of us are lucky enough to be fairly able-bodied and can easily stand on trains and buses without risking falling over. If you see someone elderly, pregnant or struggling in any way (perhaps a mother with a small child), offer them your seat. If you’re worried you’ll accidentally offend them, add a “I’m getting off soon” or something slightly jokey like “I could do with stretching my legs.”

5.) "This one’s on me.”

Out for drinks with a friend or acquaintance? Rather than insisting on splitting the bill straight down the middle, offer to buy for both of you. It’s nice to feel generous, and to feel that you’re receiving a gift – and your friend can reciprocate next time, if s/he wants. A note of caution: if you are a lot better off financially than your drinking partner, be sensitive about this.

6.) “Let me help you with that.”

If you see someone struggling, offer to help. They may rebuff you, but most people will be touched and grateful – you’ll get to make their day a little bit easier, which will put a dash of joy into yours. You might offer to help someone who’s:

->Struggling with getting a wheelchair up or down steps
->Lifting heavy luggage onto a train
->Carrying an overladen tray across a café
->Having difficulties reading a notice or leaflet
->Keep an eye out for other situations where you can make yourself useful!

7.) “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m [name].”

Many of us aren’t great at introducing ourselves. If you meet someone new, don’t just mumble about the weather or say nothing but “hi”; tell them your name, and ask theirs. It’s awkward to talk to someone for ten minutes before having to say “Sorry, I didn’t catch your name,” so be confident and upfront when meeting new people.

8.) “What I’m really passionate about is…”

So often, conversations revolve around matters of little consequence to both the speaker and the listener. If you feel that most of what you say is just small talk, try going deeper. Obviously, this doesn’t mean boring the person next to you on the bus with your entire life story – but when you’re getting to know someone, share some of your hobbies and interests, or tell them about your big life plans. You never know, you might have found a kindred spirit.

9.) “Have a great day!”

Although phrases like “have a nice day” can be overused by shopworkers and telesales staff, it’s still worth wishing people a good day, evening or weekend when you part. Speak with genuine enthusiasm, and you’ll almost certainly get a smile and a “thanks, you too!” in response – a great way to end a conversation on a high note.

10.) “I love you.”

Lastly, those three most important words; “I love you.” Do you say these enough to the people who you love? Don’t just think about your partner here – how about your kids, your parents, your grandma? It’s easy to assume that people “just know” we love them, but sometimes hearing those little words can really make someone’s day.

Stock market crash explained with monkeys!!

By Sanchit on Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Once upon a time in a place overrun with monkeys, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each. The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, they became harder to catch, so the villagers stopped their effort.

The man then announced that he would now pay $20 for each one. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. But soon the supply diminished even further and they were ever harder to catch, so people started going back to their farms and forgot about monkey catching. The man increased his price to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so sparse that it was an effort to even see a monkey, much less catch one.

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys for $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on his behalf.

While the man was away the assistant told the villagers. ‘Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has bought. I will sell them to you at $35 each and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each.’

The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys. They never saw the man nor his assistant again and once again there were monkeys everywhere.

Thats how the STOCK MARKET works and crashes!!

8 ways to supercharge your brain!!

Brain is the most powerful computer on the planet. It is said that only 4% of our brain is used in our whole lifetime!! So why not optimize it for best performance. Here are some tips that you can start following from today only-

1.) Eat almonds- Almonds is believed to improve memory.

2.) Drink apple juice- Research from the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML) indicates that apple juice increases the production of the essential neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain, resulting in an increased memory power.

3.) Sleep well

4.) Enjoy simple pleasures- Stress drains our brainpower. A stress-ridden mind consumes much of our memory resources to leave us with a feeble mind. Make a habit to engage yourself in few simple pleasures everyday to dissolve stress from your mind. Some of these simple pleasures are good for your mind, body and soul.

->Enjoy music you love
->Play with your children
->Hug a stranger
->Appreciate others
->Run few miles a day, bike or swim

5.) Fast for a day- Fasting cleans and detoxifies the body.

6.) Exercise your mind- Mental exercise is essential for a sharp and active mind.

->play scrabble, sudoku etc

->learn new skill or language

7.) Reduce sugar intake- Sugar is a non-food. It’s a form of carbohydrate that offers illusionary energy, only to cause a downhill slump once the initial burst has been worn off. Excess intake of sugar results in neurotic symptoms.

8.) Develop imagination- No one can ignore the power of imagination. So involve all your senses, relax and get imaginative!!

The dth war has begun with the launch of BIG TV.

Reliance has done much hard work to promote its BIG TV. May it be charging for GSK instead of STB to evade taxes, spoofing competitors ads, accusing competitors of poor services ; but has reliance forgotton the most important thing SERVICE TO THE CONSUMERS??

I had been facing problems with BIGTV from the past 1 month and their customer care is as pathetic as their service.

I thought maybe its 1 in a 1000 cases and overall maybe BIG TV is not that bad but a little research on internet showed 1000s of users are unsatisfied with BIG TV service. Here are some links below so you can check out the reviews-

http://reliance-big-tv.blogspot.com/2008/09/big-tv-consumer-woes-or-rivals-playing.html

->Some people have compared reliance with beggars!!

->Many have shifted and others are planning to shift to different providers.

->Some are still awaiting installation even after weeks of making payment.

->Almost all are frustrated and many are considering legal action.

So before you consider buying it just rethink-

is it big tv or BIG HOAX??

We meet 100's of people every day but remember very few of them. So lets look at what it takes to create an everlasting impact on the memory of others and how to have other people remember you-

1.) Find out how you remember other people.

2.) Get your unique style of clothing- Watch fashion tv. Read some articles and be creative. Get a scarf, wear gloves etc and ask friends how it looks. Be aware of the current fashion.

3.) Get your personal scent- Choose a fragrance for yourself. You can also mix 2-3 perfumes to get your unique one. This will help you in being identified and remember by a certain fragrance!!!!

4.) Make a signature movement- Develop some signature movement for yourself like stylish handshake or wink of an eye.

Do's and Dont's

1.) Dont always go for expensive things. Cheap things like beads can also work. Just be creative.

2.) Dont think about the beauty. People need a personality to remember.

3.) Be yourself.

How To Improve Your Cellphone Signal

By Sanchit on Thursday, September 25, 2008

Tired of weak network signal?
Obstructions like walls, mountains and fat people; RF interference; weather; and your phone’s antenna placement are all things than can dilute your signal to a tiny, staticky trickle.

Here are recommended fixes:
1. Change Location: If possible shift

2. Get An External Antenna: An external antenna works when your internal one cant do the job.

3. Invest In A Repeater: A repeater gets weak signal and boosts it for your phone

4. Change The Way You Hold The Phone: Yes, surprisingly the way you’re holding the gadget could make substantial difference to the signal.

If none of these work you probably need to call up your provider, threaten them with a switchover and hope someone listens and sets up a cell tower next door!!!!!!
